Frequently Asked Questions for Thermal InstallsQ: DOES SOLAR WORK DURING THE WINTER?
A: The Lincs Solar system is designed to work all year round. It is dependant on radiation levels, which vary on a daily basis. This applies to both Thermal and Photovoltaic systems. Q: DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION? A: With the exception of Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings solar panels are usually considered a permitted development, which fall under the town and country planning order of 1995. If you live in an area of outstanding natural beauty or conservation area it would be wise to seek the consent of the local authority. Q: CAN THE PANELS PRODUCE ELECTRICITY? A: Yes, we do both Photovoltaic and Thermal systems. Lincs Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels are used to produce electricity. Lincs Solar collectors are for the production of hot water commonly known as 'Thermal Solar Systems'. Q: CAN I HEAT MY RADIATORS? A: No, the collection area required to make a significant input to your space heating system would take up a surface area far greater than available on an average British house, which would not be cost effective. Q: WHAT GUARANTEE COMES WITH THE SYSTEM? A: We offer a full warranty on our products and services. All products and installations are of MCS standards. Q: HOW MUCH WILL I SAVE ON MY ENERGY BILLS? A: Our Lincs Solar Thermal system is designed to provide upto 70% of your annual hot water needs. Which equates to about 30% of your total energy bill – subject to individual use. Our Lincs Solar Photovoltaic system is dependant on SAP calculations, estimated at the time of survey. These are based on orientation, shading, degree of roof angle, and how much electicity to be exported. Q: WHAT IF WE MOVE? A: The Lincs Solar Thermal system is a modular system and can be easily re-located to a new property. However, property on the market which is already solar efficient, is much more appealing to buyers than not solar efficient and are going for a much higher price. Q: I HAVE A COMBINATION BOILER, IS IT COMPATIBLE? A: Most combination boilers on the market are designed to receive water no greater than 25 Degrees Celsius. With Lincs Solar system we collect all the available energy and store it in a thermal storage unit which is then delivered either direct to the hot water taps, by passing the boiler, or is blended down to 25 Degrees reducing the boilers work load by 50%. Q: ARE YOUR INSTALLERS QUALIFIED? A: Lincs Solar Ltd only use Bpec and Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) approved installers. Q: HOW MUCH DOES THE SYSTEM COST? A: The cost of a Lincs Solar installation is dependent on the property itself. There are many factors to consider, for example, the number of occupants in the property, the number of panels required, a thermal install would depend on the demand for hot water and the size of the hot water cylinder, a PV install would depend on what kWh output is required. We initially arrange a visit with a representative to determine cost, as it is not possible to determine without a survey, however, this survey has no obligation and is free of charge.
