• Solar Heating systems • Solar Photovoltaic systems Solar Heating systems converts the suns energy into usable heat, which is transferred to the hot water cylinder to supplement the boiler. Almost any property can benefit from a solar powered water heating system, dependant on roof direction. On a bright sunny day a solar system will provide free hot water. Even in cold, windy weather, good performance can still be achieved,with less sun, just sunlight. Solar Photovoltaic systems (PV) use cells, consisting of one or two layers of semi-conducting material, to convert solar radiation into electricity. Sunlight shines on the cell creating an electric field across the layers. This causes electrons to flow creating electricity. When connected together to form panels, which are linked together to form a system, they create useful amounts. Panels are mounted on the roof or on a frame. An inverter converts the direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC - or mains equivalent) electricity which is suitable for running appliances. |
